Beck Anxiety Index

The Beck Anxiety Inventory is a 21 question multiple choice questionnaire used for measuring the level of someone's anxiety. It was developed by Aaron Beck.
The Beck Anxiety questions ask the individual about his feelings during the last week. They are expressed as examples of anxiety e.g. numbnessm hot and cold sweets, feeling of dread. For each question there are the same four possible responses. These are arranged in columns and the choice is marked by a cross.

The answers are:
" NOT AT ALL
" MILDLY: It did not bother me much.
" MODERATELY: It was very unpleasant, but I could stand it.
" SEVERELY: I could barely stand it.

The responses are marked and grouped as follows:

" 0-7: minimal level of anxiety
" 8-15: mild anxiety
" 16-25: moderate anxiety
" 26-63: severe anxiety

The maximum is 63 and women with an anxiety disorder score an average of 4 greater than men.

The Beck Anxiety Inventory is the third most used anxiety measure after, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Fear Survey Schedule.
